WHAT is the ICARE Program?
The Initiative for Cultural Arts in Education (ICARE) is a program that supports long-term arts-focused educational partnerships between the Cleveland Municipal School District (CMSD) and the Northeast Ohio cultural community. ICARE seeks to improve student achievement in both the arts and academic subjects.
The partnerships treat the arts as a way of learning, a catalyst for motivating students and expanding their world. In ICARE partnerships, the arts become part of the daily education of students, both as distinct disciplines and in combination with other subjects.

WHO may apply for ICARE support?
Any elementary school in the Cleveland Municipal School District may apply in partnership with any non-profit, tax-exempt cultural arts organization in the Northeast Ohio area. A partnership may involve more than one cultural partner.
WHEN can we apply for ICARE partnership support?
Deadlines for proposals requesting ICARE funding support are usually in the spring for the following academic year.
Please contact Francoise for specific information:

HOW will partnerships be selected?
Partnerships will be selected through an open, competitive application process. An independent committee will select the partnerships based upon the criteria outlined in the application:

HOW will the schools and cultural resources be matched up?
Schools will select their cultural partner(s) based upon the needs of the school or on previous experience collaborating with the organization(s). Staff from ICARE and the Cleveland Municipal School District is available to assist schools in their selection. Cultural organizations may contact schools directly inquiring about their interest in forming a partnership. Schools may also contact arts organizations directly.
WHAT do we get if our partnership is selected?
The partnership can receive funds up to $1,200 for program planning and $15,000 for implementation during the first year. Based on the success of the first year, each partnership will be eligible to submit applications for funding of up to $35,000 for each of the next two consecutive years and up to $30,000 for the 4th year. In addition, ICARE will provide professional development opportunities,
assistance with application preparation and recognition of partnership "best practices" through publications, web site postings and presentations at local, regional, and national conferences.
HOW to Apply
Each year ICARE adds several new partnerships to the program through an
open, competitive process. Partnerships submit written applications in May
of the year preceding planned implementation. An independent committee,
representing the education, cultural arts and funding communities, evaluates
and selects partnerships based on criteria outlined in the application.
