Donald Black, Jr.

About the artist
Donald Black Jr., born and raised in Cleveland, latched on to art at a very early age. Donald attended Cleveland School of the Arts in the fourth grade, where he would get a chance to really express himself. Photography surfaced as his preferred medium and was his passion by the time high school started. After high school Donald went on to Ohio University for commercial photography. Drawn towards the fine art side of photography, after graduating he moved to New York, where he would realize his purpose. He decided to work for himself and teaching/mentoring became one of his many sources of money. After developing and implementing his own photography-based workshops, he realized his students in Cleveland needed more opportunities and decided to move back to his hometown. Donald Black Jr. has received many distinguished awards for his photography, including the 2007 International Nikon Award, 3rd Place, for his work entitled “Self Imprisonment.” His work has been displayed in multiple exhibitions throughout Northeast Ohio, New York, NY, and Atlanta, GA. He was also included in the 2006 exhibition Silent Voices, Loud Echoes at the African American Museum in Philadelphia, PA.
